The Curlee Discaya kickback probe may widen further after the contractor was arrested in connection with a malversation case linked to an allegedly anomalous flood control project.
Discaya was arrested at the Senate on Monday, June 8, days after a Bulacan court ordered his arrest and that of 10 others over a non-bailable malversation case involving public funds and alleged falsification of documents.
Curlee Discaya Kickback Probe May Widen
According to a DZRH News report, Discaya said he is prepared to name more than 150 government officials, including members of Congress, whom he claims received kickbacks from allegedly anomalous flood control projects.
The reported statement came after his arrest, adding another layer to the ongoing flood control controversy that has drawn public attention over alleged corruption, ghost projects, and questionable infrastructure spending.
Arrest Linked to Malversation Case
The Bulacan Regional Trial Court Branch 20 earlier ordered the arrest of Discaya and 10 others in connection with a malversation case tied to an allegedly anomalous flood control project in Bulacan.
According to Inquirer.net, the warrant involves malversation of public funds or property through falsification of public documents. The case is non-bailable.
ABS-CBN News also reported that the court ordered the arrest of the Discaya couple and former DPWH engineers after the Ombudsman approved the filing of charges tied to flood control projects. ABS-CBN News
Allegations Still Need Proof
The reported plan to name more officials does not automatically prove wrongdoing. Any names that may be disclosed still need to be examined through proper investigation, evidence, and legal proceedings.
Discaya and his wife Sarah previously appeared in Senate hearings where they alleged that lawmakers and DPWH officials demanded kickbacks from flood control projects. AP News reported that the couple previously alleged that at least 17 congressmen and several DPWH officials demanded around 25% kickbacks, but also noted that they did not present evidence at the time.
