Millions of users worldwide experienced disruptions on Friday after several Meta-owned platforms suffered a widespread outage. As a result, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger users reported login failures, loading issues, and unexpected error messages.

Reports of the outage began surfacing on June 12. Shortly afterward, Downdetector recorded tens of thousands of complaints. Many Facebook users said they were unexpectedly logged out. Additionally, some users reported being unable to sign back into their accounts. Meanwhile, Instagram users encountered feed-loading problems and app access issues.

WhatsApp and Messenger also experienced disruptions in several regions. Some users struggled to send messages. Others encountered intermittent service interruptions. Furthermore, the outage appeared to affect multiple countries. These included the Philippines, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and several parts of Europe and Asia.

Meta acknowledged the issue through Communications Director Andy Stone. He said the company was aware of the disruptions. Moreover, he confirmed that teams were working to restore affected services. However, Meta did not immediately disclose the cause of the outage. The company also provided no timeline for full recovery.

The outage affected Meta’s business tools as well. According to the company’s systems dashboard, several services experienced disruptions. These included Facebook Ads Manager, Messenger APIs, and WhatsApp Business. Consequently, advertisers and business users reported difficulties accessing key features.

As news of the outage spread, many users turned to alternative platforms. For example, X and Reddit saw increased activity from users seeking updates. Meanwhile, social media quickly filled with memes, reactions, and status updates about the incident.

Some services began recovering in certain regions. However, intermittent issues continued throughout the day. Despite these improvements, Meta has not yet released a detailed explanation for the disruption.

Ultimately, the outage highlights the global reliance on Meta’s family of apps. Billions of people use these platforms daily for communication, social networking, and business operations. As services gradually return to normal, users continue to await further updates from the company.
