A General Trias school stabbing left seven Grade 5 pupils injured after a Grade 8 student allegedly entered their classroom carrying a kitchen knife.

The incident happened on June 16 at a private school in Barangay Sta. Clara, General Trias City, Cavite.

Seven Grade 5 Pupils Injured

General Trias City Mayor Luis “Jon-Jon” Ferrer IV said the seven pupils were injured during the alleged attack.

Local police, the city social welfare office, school officials, and the Department of Education immediately responded to the scene. Classes were suspended following the incident as authorities began their investigation.

DepEd said it was coordinating with the school and other government agencies to provide assistance, support, and appropriate interventions to the affected learners.

Student Receiving Psychosocial Support

The Philippine National Police later said the Grade 8 student involved was allegedly experiencing a depressive condition, although this has not yet been formally confirmed.

The student is reportedly receiving counseling, guidance, and psychosocial support.

Authorities also said there were reports that the incident may have been connected to bullying, but police have not confirmed this as the motive.

Because minors are involved, officials urged the public to respect their privacy and avoid spreading names, images, or unverified claims online.

School Temporarily Shifts to Online Classes

The school announced that classes would temporarily move online from June 22 to 26 while officials review safety measures and prepare for the students’ return.

The PNP also ordered increased police visibility and preventive patrols around schools in Cavite, particularly during arrival, recess, and dismissal periods.

Police described this and another school stabbing in Cavite as isolated incidents while investigations continue.

Investigation Continues

Authorities are still determining what led to the attack and whether bullying, mental-health concerns, or other factors played a role.

The case also raises wider questions about school security, early intervention, and whether students experiencing emotional distress are receiving help before a crisis develops.
